Dr. Schwalke is a published author and researcher who has provided breast care in the Shreveport area for more than two decades. He has been an investigator in national breast care initiatives such as the National Surgical Adjuvant Breast and Bowel Project NSABP, a clinical trials initiative supported for more than fifty years by the National Cancer Institute (NCI), and the Southwest Oncology Group SWOG , one of the largest NCI clinical trials groups in America.
As Chief of Surgical Oncology at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in Shreveport, Dr. Schwalke personally supervised the training of many of the area’s most well-respected surgeons. He also managed a research laboratory studying basic breast cancer tumor biology.
During his training as a surgical oncologist, Dr. Schwalke had the opportunity to work with a number of nationally recognized leaders in the field of breast cancer treatment. He was the first physician in our area to perform breast conserving surgery or lumpectomy without mastectomy. Always striving to be on the forefront of breast care, he has been providing breast ultrasound in his office since 1995.
Dr. Schwalke’s impressive professional accomplishments complement his caring philosophy. The personal relationships he forms with his patients are the trademark of his practice. He has cared for thousands of breast cancer patients in our community, endeavoring to provide the most up-to-date treatment options available in the country.
